Physical Therapy for Urinary Incontinence
Presenter: Erica Adams, PT, DPT
Erica has a doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. While she does treat all orthopedic conditions she has a special interest in treating pelvic floor conditions such as pelvic pain from dyspareunia, vulvodynia and vaginismus, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence and defecatory dysfunction.
Physical Therapist Erica Adams PT, DPT, a specialist in the area of pelvic floor conditions will discuss how physical therapy can help control both urge and stress incontinence. Women often think that urine leakage is just a component of aging. What they don’t know is that just like the muscles in the rest of our body, the muscles that control the bladder can be strengthened to reduce or eliminate the problem. Physical therapy teaches an individual how abdominal, hip, back and pelvic floor muscles all play a role in this problem and that, by strengthening these muscles, a better quality of life can be attained.
